<hi style=afpcap>The North American Mustang was one of the most successful aircraft designs of World War Two with the P-51 version being the most prolific, although the A-36 was a dedicated ground attack version. Underwing racks could accommodate a maximum of one 500 lb bomb beneath each wing, with four 0.50 in guns in the wings and a further two in the lower fuselage. Production totalled 500 A-36s which were delivered between October 1942 and March 1943, becoming the first version of the Mustang to see operational service with the Army, primarily in support of the invasion of Sicily and Italy.</hi>
